Theatre, Cinema & Community Arts Centre
Fantastic facilities
The Stag opened on Saturday August 22 1936 as the 1,300 seat Majestic Cinema. The first feature film starred Jack Buchanan & Fay Wray in the musical farce “When Knights Were Bold” a film which the Daily Express described as “a rare triumph of unimaginativeness. Since then it has been at the heart of the Sevenoaks community for decades and continues to delight audiences of all ages. Around 30,000 people currently visit the Stag every month, making it the ideal perfomance venue and business meeting location in Kent.
The Stag is on London Road, a 15 minute walk from the train station, opposite the High Street. It backs on to a large public pay and display car park, ensuring easy access from all transport links. Sevenoaks has more than a thousand parking spaces within a few moments walk of the Stag Theatre.
The Stag Theatre
The 450-seat Stag Theatre boasts the largest performance stage in the South-East. It is the perfect choice for professional and community productions. The theatre regularly hosts music events, choral and orchestral concerts, dance shows, musical theatre productions, pantomimes, school plays, and much more. There are an additional 140 seats on stage which can be used for performances in the round too.
The Stag Plaza
The multi-million pound Stag Plaza is the perfect performance venue for theatre, gigs and events and for business events. The venue has capacity for up to 300 standing, 150 seated theatre-style or up to 120 for sit down meals. There is a fully equipped kitchen with servery, a bar, flexible staging and technical support plus theatrical lighting and sound. Everything you need for a gig, a business meeting or a party.
Apart from the regular bookings by music promoters, theatre and dance companies who love using this performance space, the Stag Plaza is also used regularly to host special events such as Sevenoaks Business Show recruitment fairs, arts and crafts fairs, product launches, training seminars and networking events.
Cinemas
There are two cinema screens at the Stag and we also show 3D films. The latest release films are shown on the day of national release and the range includes something for all ages.
We show live performances from the National Theatre, the RSC, Glyndbourne and other special events.
The cinema’s digital screens can be hired for business events, private parties and more. Why not combine your visit with a trip to the Stag Café – for a children’s party or a special party for your friends.
The Stag Theatre Cafe & Bar
The Theatre Cafe & Bar is available to hire. It is on the first floor of the Stag and can be reached via the central stairway in the foyer and by lift from the ground floor.
The venue is perfect for small business groups, meeting groups, craft demonstrations or just as an ideal central drop-in place for friends
