The Cock Horse Hildenborough

Built in 1502, the Cock Horse takes its name from the heavy horse which used to help drag stagecoaches up a steep hill to the next village.

Its old stables still exist next door to the pub, but are now four cottages. A former coaching inn, the pub features a bar and restaurant area, offering a range of dishes such as sea bass, rib-eye steak and lamb shanks. There is a garden with a lawn and two decked areas, while inside, an inglenook fireplace gives a snug feel.

Parties and other events can be catered for and walkers and well-behaved dogs are made especially welcome. History buffs can study a list tracing the former landlords back to 1511 and ghost-hunters can try to catch a glimpse of the spirit which some say still haunts the pub.
