Welcome to the George & Dragon, Chipstead
Since the time of King Henry VIII the George & Dragon, Chipstead has been offering hospitality to locals and visitors. Renovated by new owner Benjamin James in 2009, his mission was to breathe life back into a beautiful but tired sixteenth-century pub, using tasteful decor, a roaring log fire and a menu that changes daily and uses the best of what the local farms in Kent, Sussex and Surrey have to offer.
The real open fire, heavy oak beams, solid furnishings and original features make this gastropub the perfect venue for a casual lunch, dinner with friends, or romantic dinner for two. Spread over two floor since its renovation, it allows customers to enjoy food and drinks in the bar with it’s open fire, in the beamed splendour of the upstairs dining room or for more intimate parties, enjoy the treehouse inspired private dining room.
At its heart the George & Dragon, Chipstead remains a local village pub offering a warm welcome, friendly hospitality and excellent food. The menu changes daily reflecting what produce is available locally, and the team of talented chefs work passionately everyday to use the best produce from the surrounding countryside. Everything is fresh, seasonal and where possible local.
Sticking with the belief that where possible produce should be local, this pub and dining room is also proud to offer a range of beers from the Westerham Brewery. Westerham’s owner, Robert Wicks, has helped develop and brew the pub’s very own ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’ a cask ale using local hops, malt and water, which is sold alongside the brewery’s award winning Grass Hopper bitter.
Nestled in the Garden of England, Chipstead is a picturesque village. The creation of the George & Dragon, Chipstead’s large alfresco dining area with a herb and vegetable garden, makes the most of the south facing position bathed in sunlight from late morning to late evening. It is the perfect destination for afternoon drinks in the spring and summer months amongst the home-grown vegetables and fragrant herbs.
So whether you are popping in for a coffee during the day, a quick drink after work or sitting down to enjoy a freshly prepared meal and a glass of wine, you are sure to find the setting, ambience and above all the hospitality just to your liking.
