Sevenoaks Lions Club was founded in 1968, since it’s formation the club has had over 150 members. We are part of a worldwide organisation that boasts some 1.37 million members across 30,000 clubs in over 200 Countries……there is a saying “Where there is a need, there is a Lion”
The club has supported many different projects for Sevenoaks District over the years, from quite humble beginnings to being able to support large scale projects such as Hospice in the Weald and the IMAGO Minibus (formerly VAWK).
Members give up their time and use their skills to help our local community by carrying out projects, such as garden clearance, and helping to fundraise for many local good causes.
We raise money through regular activities such as the heavy horse show, our annual beer festival, Easter egg raffle, collecting money with Santa outside local supermarkets and our annual golf day.
We also have regular projects that we support. Each year we arrange to take groups of elderly Sevenoaks residents out for lunch, we send a family in need on a long overdue holiday, we prepare and deliver over 100 Christmas parcels to struggling families and individuals across the Sevenoaks area, we have an annual music hall style concert for senior citizens, we support children’s activities put on by West Kent Extra, including their Christmas Panto, the list is endless.
In addition to our regular activities we respond to requests for help from individuals and from Social Services on behalf of local residents. In the past year we have supplied white goods for people who had no way of replacing broken appliances and helped supply a family with school uniform.
Whilst doing all this we get together as a whole group once a month at Holly Bush Bowls Club, we have two sub committees that discuss fund raising and how best to spend the money that we raise and we have a programme of social events, which are separately funded by our members.
We have an awful of of fun whilst doing all of our activities. If you are interested in finding our more about becoming a Lion then please contact us via our website www.sevenoakslions.org.uk. Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter and Facebook to keep up to date with our activities.
