Bough Beech Visitor Centre

Covering the north end of Bough Beech reservoir, this reserve is a haven for wildlife and one of the most celebrated and visited birdwatching sites in the south east. Many bird species can be seen throughout the year, from cuckoos and ducks to an influx of swallows. Coots and moorhens nest by the bridge where a brook runs by on its way into the reservoir.

Excellent views of the reservoir and its birds from convenient road side parking.

The visitor centre has great displays about the history and wildlife of the area. The shop serves hot and cold drinks and light snacks. The surrounding grounds are great for toads, dragonflies and great crested newts. A hide and viewing point overlooks the flooded scrapes designed to attract wildfowl and waders.

Access
The reserve and visitor centre are located at the north end of the reservoir, 3km south of Ide Hill and signposted from the B2027 and B2042.

Walking information
There is a circular nature trail walk (between 1-2 miles) from the centre, you have to walk on a quiet lane for a short distance. The grounds are uneven and may be muddy at times. There are kissing gates on the route so it is not advisable for pushcahirs. There are additional longer routes on public footpaths in the area but not on the reserve itself. Access is restricted by the water company for safety reasons. Various event are organised throughout the year – please check the events section of the website for further information.

Ample car parking available on the causeway and at the centre.

Dogs must be on lead

Grazing animals
Sheep may be grazing in the fields around the centre and are occasionally in the fields when walking in the nature trail.
